Sing Tao Daily, a sister publication of The Standard, reported that she had been battling breast cancer for years. After the illness returned recently, she was admitted to the intensive care unit at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, where she died.

Maisy Ho was one of Stanley Ho’s 17 children and one of five born to Lucina Laam King-ying, the second of his four wives. Laam died in 2022.

Maisy Ho was an executive director at the family’s flagship firm, Shun Tak Holdings, where her sister Pansy Ho, one of Hong Kong’s wealthiest individuals, is executive chairwoman and managing director.

A profile of Maisy Ho on the company’s website, based on the 2024 annual report and updated on July 2 last year, stated that she was 57.

Beyond the family business, she served on the advisory board of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, the Court of the University of Hong Kong and the city’s Advisory Committee on Arts Development, among other organizations.

She graduated from Pepperdine University in the United States with a double major in telecommunications and psychology.

News of her death was widely covered by media in mainland China, Malaysia and Singapore, prompting many readers to share condolences on social media.

"A kind and lovely angel leaves this world too early!" one user wrote. "RIP! Hope she can happily meet her parents in paradise!"

Another commenter said it was a "shame" because she was "too young to go."

Her elder sister Pansy is Hong Kong’s 23rd richest person, with an estimated net worth of US$4.3 billion, according to Forbes.

Stanley Ho, who died in 2020 at age 99, was ranked by Bloomberg as Asia’s 17th richest person in 2019, with a fortune estimated at US$14.9 billion.
