Apple is preparing to launch a touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro integrated with Dynamic Island, marking a major turning point for the Mac lineup.

According to analyst Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple is preparing to launch a new MacBook Pro lineup with an OLED touchscreen this fall. Notably, this device will be equipped with the Dynamic Island feature, which previously only appeared on the iPhone, marking a major shift in the interface direction of the laptop line.

The Macbook Pro screen will undergo major changes

Apple first introduced Dynamic Island for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max in the form of a pill-shaped cutout that can display information and notifications. However, the Dynamic Island on the MacBook Pro will be smaller compared to the existing version on phones.

The new MacBook Pro models will come in two screen sizes, 14 and 16 inches, and will have an overall look similar to current models. Apple will update the macOS user interface to become more dynamic and work better for both touch operations as well as mouse and trackpad controls.

"For example, when a user touches a button or a certain control, the interface will display a new type of menu surrounding their finger, providing options more suitable for touch operation," Gurman wrote.

For many years, Apple has opposed bringing touch screens to Macs. At an event in October 2010, just a few months after the company launched the iPad, late CEO Steve Jobs asserted that “touch surfaces are not suitable when placed vertically” and equipping Macs with touch screens would be “terrible in terms of ergonomics”.

However, nowadays Apple promotes the iPad as both a touch tablet and a device that can be used with a Mac-style keyboard. In 2023, Mark Gurman reported that Apple was considering developing touchscreen Mac models, and it seems that will soon become a reality.

According to Gurman, the new touchscreen Mac models will be launched near the end of 2026, and will not be announced at the event scheduled to take place on March 4. Besides, Apple is also said to be planning to introduce a smaller version of the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro Max models in the future.

Apple is expected to hold a small hands-on event this coming March 4. Although the exact product details have not been announced, most rumors expect the iPhone 17e, new MacBooks, new iPads, and other hardware devices to appear or be introduced in the days surrounding the event.
