Broccoli helps cleanse the liver, beet reduces oxidative stress, and artichoke supports liver cell regeneration while boosting bile production.

The liver is the body’s largest internal organ, performing more than 500 functions, including protein digestion, mineral storage, bile production and blood filtration. But unhealthy lifestyles and poor diets can increase the risk of liver disease.

According to the Times of India, below are five common vegetables that can help support liver function when eaten regularly.

Broccoli

Compounds such as sulforaphane and vitamin C in broccoli help reduce oxidative stress in the liver. Sulforaphane also activates enzymes that support liver detoxification, helping neutralize and eliminate toxins.

Broccoli sprout extract has been shown to lower liver enzyme levels in people with fatty liver disease, thereby improving liver function.

Beet

Betalain in beet gives it a distinctive red-purple color and helps reduce oxidative stress in the liver, supporting recovery. Eating beet also provides folate and manganese, which boost metabolism and help improve fatty liver conditions.

Beet can be roasted, juiced or added to salads.

Artichoke

Artichoke is rich in antioxidants such as polyphenols, quercetin, rutin, vitamin C, luteolin and silymarin, which have anti-inflammatory effects. It also contains cynarin, which helps with liver cell regeneration, promotes bile production, supports fat digestion and eliminates toxins in the liver.

Spinach

This leafy green contains antioxidants such as beta-carotene, vitamin C and vitamin E, which help protect liver cells from oxidative stress and inflammation. It can be added to soups, boiled or steamed dishes, smoothies or salads.

Cabbage
