Apple foldable iPhone set for September debut despite delay concerns

Apple’s first foldable iPhone remains on track for a September launch alongside its next flagship models, despite earlier reports of delays linked to engineering challenges, Bloomberg reported.

Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that the device is scheduled to debut with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max during Apple’s annual launch event.

The update contrasts with an earlier report by Nikkei Asia, which cited an insider saying the U.S. tech giant had been facing engineering issues that could delay the release.

Apple has introduced four new iPhone models at its September event each year since 2020, reinforcing expectations that the foldable device will follow the same schedule.

Following the Bloomberg report, Apple shares trimmed earlier losses, trading down about 2% after falling as much as 5% earlier in the session, according to CNBC.

The foldable iPhone is part of a broader three-year plan to redesign Apple’s flagship device. The company began the overhaul last year with updated Pro and Pro Max models and a slimmer version called the iPhone Air. Another major redesign is planned for 2027 to mark the iPhone’s 20th anniversary.

The upcoming device is expected to resemble competing foldable phones but with refinements, including a crease-free display when unfolded and an updated iOS system designed to make apps function more like those on an iPad.

Pricing is projected to exceed US$2,000, which may limit mass adoption but could increase Apple’s average selling price and support revenue growth.
